Presidents Report June 2016
Anzac Day
Anzac Day went well, fortunately Dusty Miller stepped in as our Guest speaker at the last minute.
Scott Cushan was the replacement bugler after Victor Flatt was hospitalised.
There was a lot of preparation and a few late changes causing the programme to be printed at the last minute – the day was a success from the feedback received. We are grateful for the members, volunteers and community members that stepped in to help.
Our twelve collectors selling badges and memorabilia collected $5,000 over the seven day sales period. We still have to reconcile original cost price.
Meeting Cancellations
There have been a few occurrences in the past month.
The May Board meeting was cancelled due to insufficient numbers for a Quorum.
The June General meeting had to be cancelled as there were not enough members available, and the impending storm warning advice was to stay at home.
Members
It was a very sad few weeks losing two of our long standing members, Sadly we lost;
Jack Pegg 22 04 46 – 07 05 16
Dick Ashton 23 06 20 – 16 05 16
We had a good turn out for Jacks funeral seven members traveled to Albany Creek Memorial Park in the Nambour Anglican Church Bus.
Three members attended the service at Gregson and Weight in Nambour for Dick.
There were some delays in our involvement due to late and indirect notifications. It would be helpful for the committee to be advised if any our members are deceased so we can support their Poppy services if required.
Dusty Miller has had a bad chesty cough since Anzac Day, awaiting development.
Friday brought good news. It was thought that Ossie Apps had cancer, he has been cleared.
RSL QLD AGM
I will be attending the RSLQ AGM for the first time. The meetings are scheduled for the end of June. I am really interested in this opportunity to spend the weekend getting to engage with other RSL delegates from throughout the state.
Ladies Auxiliary Projects
The ladies Auxiliary had a meeting which was fruitful with some good ideas for the rest of this year. They will be publishing these events to our calendar. Please look out for these events as our auxiliary are a great opportunity for us to raise funds and get more involved with the community.
Delegates Report
The District meeting was held at the Coolum Peregian RSL Sub Branch
on Tuesday 17 May 2016.
Most of the district meetings discussions were around the planning of the upcoming RSL QLD AGM in Townsville.
There were general discussions, raised by Nambour, about the involvement of the local RSL’s with some Funeral Service companies. There may be some room for improvement with the expectations and communication between the Funeral directors, the RSL sub-branch and the families with the inclusion of Poppy Services during the funeral services.

Cadet Development Fund.
The Deputy President has made initial contact with all six cadet units, with very little response. It appears there is some reluctance to lodge the Cadet Development Application for funding. It is requested by the Deputy President for the Delegates to seek assistance from their Sub Branches to contact the local Cadet Unit and advise them that unless they make contact with the District Office and submit an CDF application, the funding will be re-allocated to those Cadets Units who respond first.
Community Link Program.
Community link provided SCRD with a listing of Sunshine Coast Schools with the potential of introducing them to the Community Link Program.
Correspondence by way of email was sent to the Schools. A CC was included to the local Sub Branch, should the School be interested in the program they are advised to contact the Sub Branch in the first instance. Currently we have 11 projects pending and 25 Schools engaged in the program. Over the ANZAC Centenary period it is SCRD’s intent to establish the Community Link Program in as many schools as possible with the assistance of RSLQ Community Link Team, SCRD Sub Branches and the District Office. Should any Sub Branches require assistance from the District Office please contact either the DS or VP Ros Strongman.
